Participate in our lab's research
Interested in participating in a study? You can email us or signup to our lab newsletter" page to learn about current studies we are running in the lab. Most studies take 60 minutes or less to complete.
Interested in joining the lab?
Each year we have a couple of volunteer research assistants (RAs) working with us on various projects in the lab. RAs tend to be highly motivated 2nd or 3rd year students who spend about 8 hours per week contributing to research activities (e.g., lab meetings, training, collecting data). At the moment, we do not have any paid RA positions available. Get in touch with Michael for information about RA opportunities.
Honours & Masters thesis supervision
We anticipate 2-3 openings each year for Honours and/or Masters students who would like to conduct experimental research in the areas of social cognition, affect expession, and social psychology, more generally.
Honours and Masters students generally undertake projects closely aligned to ongoing research projects. Confidence with quantitative analyses is recommended. Due to the time pressures associated with Honours and Masters research, students should be self-directed and begin planning their projects well in advance of undertaking their research. Research supervision in the lab focuses on professional development and growth rather than merely surviving the degree.
Interested students should get in touch with Michael in the year before they anticipate starting their research project. You can view Michael's and other psychology supervisors' thesis supervision interests on the School of Psychology's website.
Michael is availble to supervise PhD students who want to conduct research in the areas of social cognition, social psychology, and/or expressions of emotion at Massey's Manawatu campus. Massey University does offer competative PhD scholarships, and there is usually one or more Graduate Assistant positions that prospective PhD students can apply for within the school. Prospective PhD students should get in touch with Michael to enquire about supervision opportunities.
